Doubling Down at the Boulder Rez

During the winter months, it's possible to walk around the Boulder Reservoir. The water levels are low and the wildlife closures do not go into effect until March 15th.
Hazel and I have done it a few times this year and I wanted to get in a few more hikes around before March 15th. It's about 5 miles and not many people attempt it. So it's a bit of a well kept secret.

So Saturday morning was a bit chilly at 8'. Especially after it had been in the 60's all week. It took me a few minutes to remember how to dress for cold temps and then we set out for some fun. I thought it would be fun to just bring my phone to take pics and then experiment with the prism app on some of the pics to see what they'd look like.

Here's what the rez looks like......

Loved the icicles....

The south side of the rez is where boats, kayaks, etc get stored. I really liked this first pic with the flat irons in the background....

The south side is also where the swim beach is. From May through September no dogs are allowed but we're legal today...

Hazel does not care it's 8'.......silly dog!

Snow covered hills always beautiful....

We had so much fun that I decided to hike the rez again today. This time I brought my camera. And it was already 18' as we started our hike......

This is looking over Coot lake towards the flatirons......

The flicker posed nicely for me.....

There's a pole in the field as you head towards the dam. It's a favorite spot for red tailed hawks to perch and this guy posed nicely for me.....

Other than the hawk, it was quiet as we hiked around the rez. But we both had a good time and hiked over 10 miles in 2 days...whew!

Thanks for reading!
